Louis XIV had two favorite vessels in his fleet: the Sun and the Moon.

 

The Moon sank off Toulon in November 1664, when coming back from an expedition to the Northern African coasts, with almost one thousand men onboard, ordinary seamen as well as– important noble men.  But under the pressure of the Sun King and his entourage, who wished to hide this tragedy, The Moon was rapidly forgotten...

 

Discovered in 1993, the vessel lies at a depth of 90m. Almost twenty years later, technological innovations finally allow the exploration of  the wreck.

 

The IMHF Foundation along with Aqua+ company, managed by Paul Henri Nargeolot, have offered to make available to the DRASSM all necessary techniques for a 6 to 12 week-long  archaeological search.  This campaign promises to become one of the greatest media event to come, since it gathers all the key factors for success:

The boat of the most emblematic French king.

 

  For its human dimension:

The discovery by man of his history

 

  For its scientific dimension:

Items recovered may result in new valuable scientific insights.

 

  For its archaeological dimension:

Dozens of canons, numerous bronze artillery pieces, jars, dishes wait to be discovered.

These discoveries will make a worldwide- buzz in all media and will be extensively covered.

 

For its educational dimension: 
Current items to re-discover the 17th century history which eternally repeats itself.
